For mine, I pushed it to the right about an eighth of an inch before it clicked. It may help to use a can of compressed air and re-lubricate appropriate parts.

For the LS-55, I did have to remove the laser housing as the gear was on the back side, but it came off as I was opening it so no big I fixed the player in less then 5 minutes!!! I used the screw driver to gently turn the gear.

Rotating that plastic gear will move the sled back to near the spindle where it belongs.

I also did not remove the laser structure; just rotated the black gear with a small flathead screwdriver. The smile on my son's face was the best reward I could ever ask for fixing it.
