I could get mail but not send. All the settings iv entered are as u have said, and it just says "failed to connect"… which is a descriptive error message. Ports 25 and 587 didn't work for smtp.live.com but my original pop smtp server smtp.mts.net does with port 25. Not sure if it was Microsoft that changed something or if Qwest (her ISP) started blocking port 25 or what, but in any case your port 587 suggestion fixed her up. Where have you been all day? I use GMail and Windows Mail and have no problems at all. But after clicking Finish, it should me this message:The connection to the server has failed. It appears Live.com just changed it so that the SMTP settings are port 587 and TLS only.

If so you may be logging in with the browser okay, but putting the wrong password in Gmail. It reads: The connection to the server has failed. Windows Live Mail is a good alternative and it integrates very well with Live Hotmail, even automatically configuring the POP and SMTP settings for you. thanks!

Terminate Avast in my mail server…problem solved. There's no way to select TLS in Foxmail, and its version of SSL on port 587 or 25 doesn't work.
