Note that HTML and ASP/ASP.net have a different processing pipe in IIS. This was recently migrated to IIS7 and the hint to Enable IIS7 detailed errors worked like a charm! The files that it is complaining about do exist, but for some reason IIS does not have access to them. Essentially, I was redirecting all but the Default.aspx pages to https (inside Global.asax). My book (and some other sites) said to add ".NET extensibility, ASP.NET, ISAPI Extensions and ISAPI Filters" in the turn on/off features window. I renamed the global.asa to global.old and I noticed that I could now use some test.asp pages that I created by using http://localhost/test.asp . From now on, IIS is allowed to serve ASP.NET 2.0 pages, and won't throw 404 errors for every page in your site. The default name of this file is Localtag.txt.
