A prying tool got the case open quickly. I really liked this dvd player and am glad it has one more shot with me! I'm a software guy. Once cleaned and you still have the same issue, i recommend replacing the lens assembly. http://sisei.net/panasonic-dvd/panasonic-dvd-error-ho7.html In this case that little push may get your spindle motor to rev back up back into action.
THANK YOU reply Mom in Distress! The lack of top housing will fix the problem of the spindle getting warm, expanding and pushing on the top of the player. I downloaded the fix software but have no idea how to use it. Followed the instructions on this site and fixed it! Pop the back cover back on and you should be working.
